I'd request critique on almost everything I draw, but I ain't got no core membership. 'Cause I'm poor.
I've been into witches currently and this piece makes me feel inspired!
Also, I love your manga. It's soooo well drawn! Good luck with it!
Hello! I'm from Project Comment!
This is a likeable picture, with an admittedly hipster-ish style (he also looks like an older version of Guybrush Threepwood!) and a boundless enthusiasm (and a slight dose of happy dorkishness) in what he does. The suspenders, baggy sleeves, little moustache and beard in particular help give him that “friendly and nebbish” kind of look.
The magical effects of his wand are fairly well made, and I particularly like that the wand itself has a look of its own. It makes it more distinct than just being given the usual design of a simple length of lacquered black wood with a white tip. There is little in the way of shadow, but as the background is blank, it isn’t something that one misses very much.
I could imagine one making an amusing main character of this guy, in some story where the guy tries to study the arts of magic.
The rings under his eyes make him look a little tired. Are they merely a mark of him feeling the first marks of age, or has he had a long day of practicing spellcasting? His black eyebrows clash a little with the reddish hair, but otherwise I can’t really find anything to complain about.
His raggedy appearance is kinda cute, expecially the eyes, he looks a mix of proud of his abilities and embarassed, maybe because he considers it nothing more than a plaything or because he's been found out.
The colours are warm and they combine together in a somewhat welcoming atmosphere, it seems like he's saying "come here, don't be scared, let's have fun together with this".
Also, I admire how you could render the shadows without fading the colours, keeping them defined and changing only the tones making them lighter.
And small details like the white dots show creativity and cure.
Usually I'm not particularly fond of white background, but this is one of the cases where it is better like this, it helps focusing on the character.
The gentle yet sharp outlines and many gesture lines in the hair and such are brilliantly done, and the lighting and sparkle are perfecto! Although there are like, maybe, a few flaws, like the tiny sketchy lines that don't connect to anything, and the ratio of leg/ waist/arm length being a bit unbalanced, I'd personally commission you if I had any muns!
I look forward to your improvement! Have a great day/night!
ALSO, at this stage, I'm still learning so I'm not asking for any money for my drawings. If you want anything, i'd be super happy to draw it for you
